Realme 9i, the phone for the African youth

Smartphone manufacturers’ quest to capture Africa’s youthful population is gaining grounf, with Realme the latest to unveil a smartphone of high camera resolution, 6GB RAM and a 128GB internal storage.

Africa, whose average population is 19 years, commands world’s highest demand for affordable smartphones in a period where most aspects of life have gone online.

With the cost of mobile mobile internet data reducing every year across the continent, according to UK internet usage research company Cable, African youths are streaming videos, music and games like never before.

A rise in e-commerce services has made online shopping convenient as users mingle through social apps which has created a fresh demand for high processing speeds and longer battery life for mobile devices in the past two years.

Chinese smartphone make Realme is now pioneering a new era of handsets that solves power and speed issues with recent launch of realme 9i- the fastest budget smartphone in the country.

The latest model is its first smartphone powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 680 chipset, the advanced 6 nanometre processor, which features a powerful Octa-core, clocking up to 2.4GHz speed, bringing less power consumption and more performance.

This, Realme told Afcacia, allows users to access the best features without compromising on performance of the phone.

“We are always keen on providing Kenyan users with our latest technologies, giving them the opportunity to experience the next level of power with the realme 9 series,” said Mildred Agoya, the company’s marketing manager for Kenya.

“The processor provides a 25% increase in CPU and AI performance, as well as a 10% increase in GPU performance, allowing smoother application, faster launch, higher frame rate, better gaming experience, and fewer lags.”

She said it consumes 62% less power and affords 46% more performance than the 12nm processor. The phone also has a relatively lower temperature rise and more stable frame rate. The low power consumption effectively extends the battery life.

Ms Agoya said that is in line with the brand’s goal of bringing young consumers with a leap-forward performance experience.

Realme 9i comes with either a 4GB or 6GB of RAM and a 64GB or 128GB of internal storage space. The phone has high quality triple camera, massive 6.6 inch display with a 90Hz refresh rate and is equipped with a battery of 5,000 mAh that supports 33W fast charging. It can charge the smartphone up to 100 per cent in just 70 mins offering users uninterrupted consumption and usage for long hours.

“Starting with the Realme 9i, the Realme9 series will take the mid-range smartphone segment to a whole new level combining the best of both – powerful performance and exquisite design,” said Ms Agoya.

Realme 9i also features an advanced 50MP AI Triple Camera, comprising a 50MP Ultra HD Main Camera, a 2MP Portrait Lens for professional portrait mode, and a 2MP macro lens.

The device also comes with trendy photography functions like Panoramic view, Expert, Time-lapse, AI Beauty Filter, Super Text, Slow Motion. It has an Adaptive 90Hz Smooth Display; supports five levels of refresh rate for a smooth experience.

With a 90.8% screen-to-body ratio, the smartphone offers a large display. The phone comes with an 8.4mm thin build, weighing at 190g, making it easy to carry.

The device features the realme UI 2.0 which provides users with a smooth and trouble-free experience like no other. The realme 9i brings the first Stereo Prism Design to the Realme family of devices, presenting a dynamic effect of three-dimensional light and shadow transformation.

The new model is available in all online and offline shops across the country and sells at a recommended retail price of Ksh 23,0000 for the 6+128GB variant.
